Basketball Hoops In the modern world, basketball hoops stand out as one of the greatest recreational equipment in the entertainment or sports market. They offer individuals the opportunity to play, have fun, and hone their shooting skills.

If you have been thinking of installing some kind of basketball hoop system in your home, then chances are that you may have considered the kind of options that may suit your needs.

Portable Basketball Hoops Portable Basketball Hoops

As the name suggests, portable basketball hoops comprise several components such as backboard, pole section, rims, and base which are fitted together.

What distinguishes these units from the other systems is that they can be rolled on wheels and players can adjust the height of the goal to match their levels of play. The base unit is normally filled with either water or sand to provide stability.

There are several brands which produce these types of systems notable ones being Lifetime and Spalding. Their pricing and performance varies with the features.  While cheap ones go for a few hundred dollars, the high-end versions retail for several hundreds of dollars.

Advantages:

There are several good points to note about portable systems. Apart from being portable, they can be used comfortably either indoors or outdoors in places such as garages, backyards, driveways, or patios.  Assembling them is quite easy because they require minimal installation. Actually, there is no concrete required to fix them into place and they can also be disassembled quickly for storage.

Disadvantages:

On the downside, they are not a sturdy as in-ground systems and their ball response is good but once again not as good as in-ground systems.. Although they are satisfactory, they also take up more space due to the large water or sand filled bases.

In-Ground Hoops In-Ground Hoops

As you would expect, the in-ground hoops are fixed permanently using a bolt mounting kit or installed directly on the floor. They also have different adjustment mechanisms such as counter-balance, pneumatic, and single-hand adjustments depending on the type of system.

Advantages:

Generally, they are rigid and strong and they take up less space than portable ones. The good thing with in-ground hoops is that they offer greater opportunities for robust and competitive play and this means that they match the playing needs of intermediate and professional players. Also, as with portable basketball systems, they are height-adjustable, and come with heavy-duty breakaway rims and removable posts.

Disadvantages:

Installation is challenging and in most cases requires the intervention of professionals to complete the task. This means digging a deep hole and setting the pole in concrete etc.

Wall Mounted Hoops Wall Mounted Hoops

These systems can be mounted to walls inside a home, arena, backyard or even a garage.  They are designed to hold either fan shape or rectangular backboards, but some models are capable of holding both.

For safety and enhanced under-hoop play, some come with braces that extend outwards. While some of them come with necessary hardware, some don’t come with the mounting kit.

Advantages:

One key benefit that they offer to home owners is that they readily optimize the available space because the poles don’t take much space. They are also sturdier than portable units. These are also cheaper options for arena or gym practice in community centers.

Disadvantages:

The down side to these hoops is that they are limited to enclosed areas and cannot be moved around once they have been mounted. You need to make sure that you choose the best place possible before fitting the unit.
